RE: On the cape in Brewster, MA--Shady Knoll or Sweetwater?

We just got back from 2 weeks in Sweetwater. The sites are spaced apart more than usual for a private cg but we nicknamed it Barking Dog Campground. There's a connector trail to the Cape Cod bike trail (very nice trail). We packed up the bikes & went to the National Seashore in Eastham & biked to Coast Guard beach.

RE: Change oil at 3K miles or by veh. computer ? Revised page 7

The service manager at my dealer says it's OK to trust the oil change light. GM uses an algorithm based on literally millions of miles of data.
That said, for around town driving I go with the oil reminder light. For towing it's 3000 miles. I've also heard the latest oil formulation uses less zinc and using a can of GM EOS isn't a bad idea especially in older vehicles.

RE: Towing with my 05 Trailblazer

Well, I tow our 21SSO with an Envoy. All the TB's / Envoys have the tow package. I keep it in 3rd gear and even though GM says it's not needed I added a transmission cooler. The I-6 is a pretty torquey engine. And your TB is pre-wired (but not plug 'n play) for a brake controller. You may have to add a fuse and attach a terminal under the hood to enable the charge line for the battery. PM me if you need the details.
You always want more power on a hill and sure, I'd like an Expedition but this combo works for now.
Towing uphill I lock it in 2nd gear and run the engine to 4000 RPM. Towing mileage is 9-11 MPG depending on terrain, speed, and if there's a headwind. This makes for frequent fuel stops.

RE: Campgrounds along the New York Thruway (90)

There's a KOA in Canandaigua (Rochester). We don't do KOAs so I can't comment on it.

RE: emptying hot water tank

When I leave a campground I remove the low point cold water drain cap and open the hot side kitchen faucet. By the time I'm home the water heater is empty.

RE: Coleman Dual Fuel problems

The only thing I can think of would be a plugged generator which is replaceable. My Coleman stuff is pre-unleaded gas.

RE: 2005 coachmen clipper spirit 1280st

We had an '04 Viking 2170ST (10' box, front storage, no slide) for 2 years. No major problems with it. The lift recalls were on the late '04 & '05 models with the lift crank in the rear. Ours was an early '04 so it had the front crank cable system.

RE: bar harbor attactions, and must see sights

We did the Cat whale watch last year right out of Bar Harbor. Saw lots of dolphins along with whales. DW & I did a 2-person guided kayak tour out of Southwest Harbor that was good also.

RE: Patching a Tire

Having worked in a tire shop the only way to patch a tire IMHO is to dismount it and use an "umbrella" plug-patch on it. The patch seals the hole and the plug fills in the hole.

RE: Cape Cod area stuff to do

We're camping in Brewster as I write this. So far we went to the National Seashore and did a day at the beach and a canoe trip. Went to New Bedford for the whaling museum. We went for a scenic cruise down 6A & DW did some shopping. Wandered around P-town for a day & did a sailing schooner trip. Today we did a whale watch trip out of P-town and wandered around some more, climbing the Pilgrim monument for an elevated view of the area. Went to the Cape Cod lighthouse that was moved to save it from falling into the ocean. The Cape Code Rail / Bike trail is wonderful. Did a natural history museum & beach walk in Brewster. We'd like to get to Hyannis yet also & Woods Hole.
And yes, P-town is very interesting in itself.

RE: Supplementing water hook-up with water pump

We're at a cg now that has a water pressure of 15-20 PSI. I filled the on-board tank and use the pump when we want to shower, otherwise we turn the pump off & use the city water hookup.
No, it won't hurt anything. The check valve on your city water inlet will stop any backflow.

RE: Tow Mirrors for Chevy Tahoe

On my Envoy I tried a set of the strap-on mirrors. They didn't fit worth a d*** and I broke a strap on one.
I have a set of McKesh mirrors now, I should have just gone with them first.

RE: Adirondack Park Scenic Route 3

Either take I-90 ($$$$ and more $$$) to I-81 North in Syracuse or you can take the slow route of Rt 104 to I-81 North. I bypass Watertown & get off I-81 at exit 48 (Rt 342) and take that to Rt 3.
Take Rt 3 to Rt 86 in Saranac Lake and follow Rt 86 into Lake Placid. Rt 3 starts to get hilly around Star Lake but nothing major. There are a few areas with 2 uphill lanes for slow vehicles, after all it is logging country.
For a campground we like North Pole Resorts in Wilmington, about 8 miles from Lake Placid. The 100 Acre Woods side is new & has pull-throughs. But be forwarned - Rt 86 from Lake Placid to Wilmington is narrow & winding.

RE: Chevy 1500, 3.73 vs. 4.10 axle

Are you stuck on a GM?
Ford's Triton engine makes more torque & they have a six-speed transmission, GM still uses the 4L60E in the 1/2-tons.

RE: Do you dump your holding tanks after a weekend trip?

Unless we're boondocking I dump before we leave. For those time I have to dump at home I dump down the sewer cleanout in my front yard.
